2019 Heisman Candidates: The Top Ten Too Early First Guess

7. QB Tate Martell, Soph. Ohio State

Again, this is based the call that Dwayne Haskins will turn pro early. If not, put him in the top three on this list.

Martell was a super-recruit out of Las Vegas who fit the Urban Meyer offense perfectly. He’s not big, but he’s a good runner, an accurate passer, and he’s got the make-up to be the main man right out of the gate this spring if “Simba” really does leave.

Under Ryan Day, there will certainly be more RPOs and more running if Martell is under center, averaging close to six yards per carry with two touchdowns in a limited role. He hit 23-of-28 of his passes – good for 82% – for 269 yards and a touchdown, connecting on all ten of his throws in the blowout over Rutgers.

There’s no way he throws like Haskins did, but Haskins didn’t run like Martell will.

NEXT: No. 6. Book it … He should be in the Heisman hunt (all apologies for that) …
