CFN First-Team All-Americans
1. Deandre Baker, Sr. Georgia
There was an error or two along the way – he dropped the ball before going across the goal line on what should’ve been a pick-six against South Carolina – but that’s splitting hairs. He only came up with two interceptions, but he broke up ten passes and made 40 tackles as he shut down top target after top target.
2. Greedy Williams, Soph. LSU
The tall, thin future NFL top ten overall pick erased his side of the field throughout the season, coming up with two picks and nine broken up passes even though teams tried to avoid him. A decent tackler, he came up with 33 stops – ten against Ole Miss – but it wasn’t his job to be a thumper.
CFN Second-Team All-Americans
3. Julian Love, Jr. Notre Dame
He might have only made one interception, but he broke up 15 passes and made 61 tackles, getting tough in game after game with 12 stops against USC and nine against Florida State. He also returned a fumble for a touchdown against Virginia Tech.
4. Hamp Cheevers, Jr. Boston College
Ties for the nation-lead in interceptions, the speedy junior picked off seven passes taking one for a score. A good open-field tackler, he finished with 39 stops, but he was at his best when the ball was in the air, spreading out the production with his seven picks in a ten-game run.
