Notre Dame 24, USC 17
They did it. Love them or hate them, like this team or think it’s overrated, it doesn’t matter. It’s in the College Football Playoff as no worse than the No. 3 seed – most likely. It wasn’t pretty, and it took a while to wake up – inexplicably – but Ian Book threw for 352 yards and two scores, and Dexter Williams ran for 97 yards, highlighted by a 52-yard touchdown run to take down the Trojans. It was a fight, but all Notre Dame needed to do was get out with a. win. It did just that.
– Notre Dame-USC What Happened & What It Means
Liberty 28, New Mexico State 21
Liberty kept hopes alive for a six-win season – it’s not eligible to go bowling in its first season – by getting up 17-0 helped by a pick six. But New Mexico State followed that up with a kick six and an interception return of its own for a touchdown. The Flames got 28 first half points, and that’s all they needed, despite getting outgained 396 yards to 295.
Utan 35, BYU 27
The Cougars looked like they were going to have a signature more for the season – even more than beating Wisconsin in Madison. The Cougars got up 20-0, and then everything fell flat as the Utes roared to 35 second half points. The Cougar D held Utah to under 300 yards and owned most of the game, but the fourth was a disaster. Even so, Zach Wilson played well, completing 20-of-29 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns with a pick, and led the way with 73 rushing yards. Matt Hadley ran for two touchdowns before hurting his leg.
