North Texas 24, UTSA 21
UTSA actually came up with a little bit of offense, getting three touchdowns – an explosion for this attack – but it wasn’t enough. Mason Fine threw two touchdown passes for North Texas and DeAndre Torrey ran for 155 yards and a score. UTSA’s season is done, but North Texas has a shot at ten wins with a bowl victory.
Marshall 28, FIU 25
FIU missed out on getting to the Conference USA championship after giving up a blocked punt for a score and a pick six to the Herd. Isaiah Green connected with Tyre Brady for two touchdown passes, but FIU tried to come back with two fourth quarter touchdowns. Both teams are going bowling, but the Herd can play the bowl eligibility spoiler next week against Virginia Tech.
WKU 30, Louisiana Tech 15
WKU closed its season out with a bang, getting two touchdown runs from D’Andre Ferby and a scoring pass from Steven Duncan for the third win of the season. Louisiana Tech is going bowling, but it clunked with just 61 rushing yards, mostly due to a relentless WKU pass rush that cranked up five sacks.
Rice 27, Old Dominion 13
Rice closed out a miserable season with something positive, getting 224 yards and two scores out of Juma Otoviano – that’s how the Owl ground game is supposed to work under this coaching staff. Old Dominion’s disappointing season sunk even lower, turning it over three times and having a disastrous time against the run.
Southern Miss 39, UTEP 7
The USM defense dominated UTEP, holding it to 187 yards and picking off Brandon Jones three times.The Miners didn’t score until the fourth quarter as USM took a massive early lead and kept rolling with the running game. The Golden Eagles ran for 252 yards and three scores to get bowl eligible.
Middle Tennessee 27, UAB 3
Middle Tennessee got 261 passing yards and two touchdowns from Brent Stockstill in what turned out to be Round One. With FIU losing, the Blue Raiders took the East and get a rematch with UAB next week. In a total offensive clunker, the Blazers finished with 89 yards of total offense with AJ Erdely and Tyler Johnston getting sacked seven times.
Charlotte 27, Florida Atlantic 24
Charlotte has a new coach and a new era coming up, but it close out by ruining Florida Atlantic’s season. The Owls were at home with a shot to get bowl eligible, but instead they were crushed in the final moments as Jonathan Cruz nailed a 56-yard bomb of a field goal for the 49er win.
