Western Michigan (6-4) vs. Ball State (3-7) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
It’s still there for Western Michigan.
The Broncos need to beat Ball State and hope Miami University can beat Northern Illinois. If that happens, it’s WMU vs. NIU for the MAC West title next Tuesday night in Kalamazoo.
But even if MU doesn’t take care of the Huskies, the Broncos need this win. The MAC will likely have limited bowl spots for all the available bowl eligible teams, and six wins might not cut it. Seven wins should ensure a post-season trip.
Losers of two straight, the Broncos are limping into this with a disastrous thud. The defense has left the building, allowing 110 points over the last two weeks, but fortunately, Ball State’s D isn’t doing much better.
The Cardinals are on a three-game losing streak with a defense that’s no stopping anyone’s running game and a secondary that’s allowing too many big plays.
Western Michigan’s issue is a run defense that’s getting hammered on, but the Ball State ground attack has fallen silent over the last two weeks. This is the game that it busts out again.
Bronco QB Kaleb Eleby will bomb away, but James Gilbert is back to hammer away for the Cardinals. But BSU QB Riley Neal is out, there won’t be any balance to the Ball State attack, and the WMU team that desperately needs to win to keep MAC hopes alive will rise up.
WMU will allow too many rushing yards, but it’ll keep the offense that has scored more than 24 points just once all year against FBS teams from going off.
