Virginia (7-4) vs. Virginia Tech (4-6) Game Preview
One Reason Why Virginia Will Win
The Virginia Tech run defense has been awful at times over the last several weeks, but to be fair, Georgia Tech and Pitt are running through everyone right now.
North Carolina and Boston College were able to roll for well over 200 yards, too.
The Cavalier ground game isn’t anything special, but it’s good enough to keep the chains moving and create easy third down tries. The O line is playing well, there won’t be too many chances taken, and the idea will be to do exactly what the team has done to get to six wins.
Convert third downs, own the clock, and rely on Bryce Perkins and his all-around skills to give the Virginia Tech linebackers problems. There won’t be any wild chances taken – the Cavs can win this by simply running their normal game plan.
One Reason Why Virginia Tech Will Win
The team needed a win over the last month, and hasn’t been able to get it, bottoming up – relatively speaking – with a blowout loss at home to Miami.
But the program is making a big deal out of keeping its 25-year bowl streak alive – win this, and the team plays Marshall next week; lose, and that’s the season – and it might just have the right make-up to win this.
Yeah, the Virginia Tech run defense has been a massive disappointment, but again, that’s partly because it’s been dealing with some of the best running games in college football.
Virginia hasn’t had to deal with too much through the air lately, but before playing the mostly running teams, teams were hitting 250 yards without too much of an issue.
Ryan Willis has to come up with another good-enough game, the O has to continue to be decent when it comes to turnovers, and the D line has to get to a banged up Perkins and apply pressure in the backfield throughout.
This isn’t an explosive Virginia team; the Hokies have to be a wee bit patient, and take advantage of every opportunity.
What’s Going To Happen
Virginia Tech will finally pull off a win.
At home in the rivalry game with the season on the line, the defense will start to look a bit more like it’s supposed to, the passing game will be a difference-maker, and the team will be a +2 in the turnover battle to live to fight another day.
