Vanderbilt (4-5) vs. Missouri (5-4) Game Preview
One Reason Why Vanderbilt Will Win
When it’s on, Vanderbilt has the passing game to keep up the pace.
Kyle Shurmur hasn’t bombed away too often, but he was great against Notre Dame, has been able to keep things moving in the SEC, and he’s been solid for around 200 yards per game while limiting the turnovers.
If this gets into a shootout in any way, he can handle it.
The Missouri secondary couldn’t handle Tua Tagovaolia or Jake Fromm, but no one can. It also got hit for almost 300 yards by Kentucky in the meltdown loss, and is about to get pressured by the Commodores all game long.
But they showed last week that they have a running attack, too.
They ran for a season-high – against FBS teams – 250 yards with four touchdowns in the win over Arkansas a few weeks ago, led by a 176-yard day from Ke’Shawn Vaughn.
If all of the parts are working, the Commodores will hang in this.
One Reason Why Missouri Will Win
Drew Lock is on. When he’s throwing well, Missouri wins.
He struggled turning the losses, but he was sharp against Florida last week, hitting 24-of-32 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns with no picks. When he’s connecting on 60% of his passes or more this season, Missouri is 5-0. When he’s under 60%, Mizzou is 0-4.
Vanderbilt’s secondary is allowing quarterbacks to hit 64% of their passes on the year, with only Nevada and Kentucky going under 60% so far.
Vandy might have a good passing game with Shurmur, and there’s just enough offense to get by, but the offense doesn’t move the chains on key downs, and the defense is the worst in the SEC in third down stops.
As long as Lock is relaxed and in a groove, Missouri’s offense should be just fine.

What’s Going To Happen
Missouri won’t have a problem getting the sixth win and becoming bowl eligible with Tennessee and Arkansas to close, but it’ll get it done this week with a strong day from the offense.
Vanderbilt will keep up the pace in a bit of a shootout, but the momentum from the Florida game will keep up for the Tigers as they put together a nice performance at home.
