UMass (4-7) vs. Georgia (9-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why UMass Will Win
Georgia doesn’t need to care about this.
You’ll have to forgive the Bulldogs if they don’t have the mental energy to focus too hard on this. It’s not the final home game of the year. The Georgia Tech rivalry battle next week is bigger, and there’s that little skirmish with Alabama coming up over in Atlanta in a couple of weeks.
At LSU, Florida, at Kentucky, Auburn … UMass.
Exhale.
There’s no defense to speak of, but the passing game has been dangerous enough to potentially be a wee bit of a problem.
The Minutemen will bomb away, coming up with 390 yards or more through the air in four of the last six games, with 17 touchdown passes and just four picks over that span.
If Georgia brings its energy and attention, everything will be fine. But that Yellow Jacket option attack is up next …
One Reason Why Georgia Will Win
Even the backup Georgia linemen will dominate.
The Minutemen are miserable in pass protection, and they’re not getting any pressure in the backfield. Georgia won’t have to do anything crazy to be disruptive on one side, and it should be able to blast away on the other.
UMass has been consistently miserable against the run, allowing over 200 yards in each of the last six games and to every FBS team but Charlotte.
And it’s not like the secondary is stopping anyone, either.
Georgia might not be fully focused on this, but as long as it turns the switch on for 15 minutes, it should have a massive lead going into the second quarter, and then it’s coasting time.
The depth at running back will come into play, with all of good backs getting their turn to take a home run swing. Expect at least three Georgia touchdowns from 40 yards away or more.

What’s Going To Happen
Georgia’s defense will give up a few UMass scoring drives, but there won’t be any drama. This will be over midway through the third quarter, and then it’s on to the finishing kick.
It won’t be a total wipeout for the Bulldogs, but they’ll get in a nice scrimmage for the main men before the backups get in some meaningful work.
