UCF (10-0) vs. USF (7-4) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
This can’t be as much of a classic as last year’s thrilling 49-42 UCF win, can it?
For that to happen, the porous South Florida defense has to get a whole lot better at college football in a big hurry. The Bulls started out 7-0 before going on a four-game losing streak. The run defense has crashed, the secondary struggled last week against Temple, and there are just too many mistakes.
The biggest culprit is an offensive line that has a nightmare of a time against anyone who can rush the passer.
The passing game has’t been bad, and there was a ground game before the last few weeks, but the D isn’t there to keep up with the red-hot UCF attack that keeps on rolling.
The UCF defensive front might not come up with a whole slew of sacks, but it lives behind the line with enough tackles for loss to be steadily disruptive.
McKenzie Milton isn’t in the Heisman race, but he’s been nearly perfect so far as exactly what the Knight offense needs. He has only thrown two picks since September 8th, he’s keeping the chains moving, and he and the O are capitalizing on just about every mistake and opportunity.
USF will take the intensity to another level at home – with the hope of ending the UCF winning streak and ruining the College Football Playoff dream – but to do that, the passing game has to find itself again despite a shaky quarterback situation, the scoring punch has to return, and the turnovers – 13 in the last five games – have to stop.
Emotion will carry the Bulls a wee bit, but it won’t be enough. The Knights are too strong on the lines right now to blow it, even against a rival in its biggest game of the year.
