Really. There’s a scenario where 12-0 Notre Dame could be left out?

Nah.

Even though everything going chalk is the more believable idea, here’s my pre-Saturday call on how this will really go down for the College Football Playoff.

Alabama will be No. 1 without a problem, and Clemson will be the easy No. 2. The committee won’t mess with anything, and Notre Dame is safe – it’ll be a Clemson vs. Notre Dame Orange Bowl.

There are going to be plenty of arguments made throughout the weekend about the Irish not being worthy of being in without a conference championship game, but being unbeaten and Notre Dame matters.

12-0. That’s it. In. And yes, UCF fans, your team beat Pitt easier than the Irish did, but it’s about three things with your Knights.

Schedule, schedule, schedule.

I’m picking Texas to beat Oklahoma, setting up an Alabama vs. Ohio State Cotton Bowl. But if OU wins, unless the Buckeyes demolish Northwestern, that Purdue loss is going to be too much to overcome.

So, this isn’t actually going to be that hard.

Cotton: No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 4 Oklahoma (if it beats Texas)/Ohio State (if Texas wins)
Orange: No. 2 Clemson vs. No. 3 Notre Dame

In other words, it’s all about the Big 12 Championship.
