10 Best ATS Picks So Far: 68-63-1

Starting with a few that didn’t quite make the cut, but are still spicy …

Stanford -7 over UCLA
Hawaii +17.5 over SDSU
– Old Dominion -7.5 over Rice

10. Southern Miss at UTEP

LINE: Southern Miss -13, o/u: 45
ATS PICK: UTEP

It might go against everything you believe and and know after the last few years to pick UTEP for anything, but even after getting blown out by WKU last week, the Miners should be able to keep this close at home.

Southern Miss needs to win to go bowling, but it doesn’t have the offense or the ability to come up with massive wins on the road. Each of the last four Golden Eagle games have been decided by three points or fewer – nine points total. On the road so far this year? USM is 0-4.

UTEP should keep USM to around 27 points or under. The Miner O should be able to get to at least 14 in the home and season finale.

9. Utah State at Boise State

LINE: Boise State -3, o/u: 67
ATS PICK: Boise State

This is just a straight up legacy call. It’s Boise State at home in a massive game with everything on the line.

Utah State might have been amazing so far this year, but it has exactly two wins over teams that will go bowling – and Hawaii and BYU aren’t exactly killers. This offense has been great, but it’s been doing it against the weak and the sad.

Boise State also beat BYU, but it also took out Fresno State just a few weeks ago, won at Nevada, and has five wins over likely bowl teams.

And it’s Boise State at home in a massive game with everything on the line.

8. Temple at UConn

LINE: Temple -31, o/u: 67
ATS PICK: UConn

YUCK … picking UTEP against the spread AND UConn? Especially after we tried this last week when UConn was getting 16.5 against East Carolina and … 55-21 loss.

It’s the last game of the year for the Huskies, it’s at home, and it’s the one chance to salvage something positive out of the season.

As miserable as the Huskies have been, they do have just enough of an offense to do a little bit of something positive. Temple has been great on the road, but it only has one blowout win by 31 points or more.

The Owls will win easily, but the 31 is just too large a number.

And UConn owes us for a year of pain and anguish.

7. Texas Tech vs. Baylor

LINE: Texas Tech -5, o/u: 64
ATS PICK: Texas Tech

With bowl eligibility on the line for both teams, it’ll be as entertaining and intense a non-massive game as there is this weekend, and both are coming off of total clunkers.

The Texas Tech quarterback situation is a mess, and there’s nothing to count on after the 21-6 loss to Kansas State. But the defense hasn’t been awful and the O should find something that works against the Baylor D that’s not a rock.

The Bears are going to be good for about 17 points – it hasn’t been able to do more than that in four of the last five games. With the line going down from Texas Tech -7 to -5, it’s easily in range.

6. San Jose State at Fresno State

LINE: Fresno State -31.5, o/u: 49.5
ATS PICK: San Jose State

UTEP, UConn and San Jose State in the same week? Oh dear lord …

However, there are several factors at play here. The Spartans were in a similar spot last season in the finale – with just one win on the season – and they stunned Wyoming 20-17.

Fresno State will try a bit, but it has the West title locked up and has either Boise State or Utah State to deal with. Even if it was totally into winning this game with full attention, this isn’t the type of team that wins too many games in ugly blowouts.

It has yet to beat any FBS team this season by more than 31. San Jose State has only been blown out by more than 31 once.

Fresno State will put this away fast, coast, and go on to the Mountain West title game.
