ATS PICK: Michigan
Another week, another big game for Jim Harbaugh and a referendum on his coaching tenure.
There was a tough battle against Northwestern when the offense bogged down, but since the loss to Notre Dame to start the season – when the team seemed like it needed a little work to get the timing down – the Wolverines have won six of their seven games by double digits.
Granted there’s an SMU and a Western Michigan thrown into the mix, but the defense has gotten stronger and stronger – and more focused – as the season has gone on, shutting down Wisconsin and Michigan State to a dead stop over the last two games.
And best of all, the team has had two weeks off to rest up for the finishing kick.
The Penn State 30-24 win over Iowa was a big of a brawl. Those two beat each other up, Trace McSorley was on the sidelines for a bit, and that was one of those Power Five vs. Power Five battles that left both teams reeling a bit.
It was a great win for the Nittany Lions, but that’s been about it for them so far. Their calling card has been close-call losses to the good teams – Ohio State and Michigan State – and the fight back to get by Appalachian State.
This isn’t going to be anything pretty, but the rested Michigan defense should be rock-solid against McSorley and the passing game. After beating Wisconsin by 25 and Michigan State by 14, the 10.5 won’t be a problem for the Wolverines.
