Louisiana (7-5) vs. Appalachian State (9-2) Game Preview
Three Reasons Why You Should Watch The Sun Belt Championship
– The league is finally doing it right. After the maddening last few years with dual champions, now the issue will be decided on the field in a championship that should bring the offense and should be entertaining. Both teams are fun, and both are going bowling. And now they get to make Sun Belt football history in the inaugural game.
– It’s not quite Urban Meyer vs. Nick Saban – at least not yet – however, these are two of the hotter young head coaches showing off. Appalachian State’s Scott Satterfield is on the short list for just about every gig from Louisville to Georgia Tech to anything else you want to put him up for.
Louisiana’s Billy Napier needed to prove he could be a head coach after rising up the ranks as a strong Power Five offensive coordinator. He did it, getting the Ragin’ Cajuns to the Sun Belt title game and getting them bowl eligible. He might not be ready to roll to a bigger job now, but that’s coming.
– It’s the first year of the two division experience in the Sun Belt, but this might crank up a little bit of a rivalry. The East is the far, far superior division with Appalachian State, Troy and Georgia Southern – all three teams went 9-3 overall. The West? Whatever.
Arkansas State was good and ULM got to 6-6, but yeah, the third best team in the East is better than the top team in the West. Louisiana can change all of that.
