San Diego State (6-2) vs. New Mexico (3-5) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
San Diego State was playing with fire in close game after close game, and it finally got burned in a 28-24 loss to Nevada.
All is not lost, with the Mountain West title still on the table with Fresno State still to play, but first, the offense has to start working again.
And it has to gear it up against a New Mexico defense that just got hit for 61 points by Utah State.
Welcome back QB Christian Chapman – at least for a few plays – and welcome back RB Juwan Washington. Those two should make all the difference.
The Lobo offense hit a wall over the last few weeks in a three-game losing streak, but three of the last four games are at home, and again, the Aztecs aren’t cranking up the offense – there’s a chance to keep this close.
The San Diego State defensive front continues to be amazing, helping the D that’s second in the nation against the run, and tops in he Mountain West overall.
The linebackers are good enough and smart enough to handle the twists and turns of the Lobos attack, and while getting points is like pulling teeth, the rushing attack is just good enough – hello, Mr. Washington – to go on a few good scoring drives to get up early.
The defense will take care of the rest.
