Purdue (5-6) vs. Indiana (5-6) Game Preview
One Reason Why Purdue Will Win
David Blough had one shot at Indiana, and he couldn’t come through.
He wasn’t bad as a sophomore – throwing for 225-yard and two scores in the 26-24 loss – but he also threw two picks. He’s come a long way since then.
He’s a far more efficient and effective passer now, and he’s not making the same mistakes. While Indiana’s offense will dink and dunk, Blough’s been great at getting the ball to his guys on the move, averaging more eight yards per throw. He might have struggled against Minnesota, but he’s been a machine against everyone else.
Indiana’s secondary has been fine, but it’ll give up big plays and it’s not doing enough to come up with big mistakes. There isn’t enough of a pass rush to give Blough issues, and there’s no Jonathan Taylor to deal with on the other side.
This needs to be the game for the veteran to take this home for bowl eligibility.
One Reason Why Indiana Will Win
No, Indiana doesn’t have a Jonathan Taylor – who ripped off over 300 yards in the triple-overtime win for Wisconsin over the Boilermakers – but it does have Steve Scott. On fire over the last few weeks, he’s coming off his third 100-yard game in the last four weeks.
It wasn’t just the game against the Badgers – Purdue can be run on. Minnesota was able to do it, Iowa came up with four touchdown runs, and Nebraska and Missouri were each able to come up with big gashes.
Indiana can throw, too, but it’s not big on pushing the ball down the field. Get a little bit of balance, get some early momentum with a few scores, and then come up with the passing yards as the game goes on.
Purdue’s secondary will give up yards, too. The line doesn’t get into the backfield enough and it isn’t disruptive.
What’s Going To Happen
The winner goes bowling and the loser goes home.
This will be fun, and in the end, Purdue will make amends for not getting the job done against the Badgers.
Indiana will come up with a good defensive performance to keep this close throughout, but Blough will pitch a gem, and the offense will be far more explosive than IU’s.
