Big 12

Oklahoma (8-1)

The Path to the College Football Playoff: The Sooners keep on surviving and advancing after a tough 51-46 win over Texas Tech. It was the fifth straight game with 45 points or more, and the O has to keep it all going by beating Oklahoma State, Kansas, and winning at West Virginia to close.

Win out, and hope Michigan doesn’t win the Big Ten title at 12-1. A 12-1 Oklahoma beats out Ohio State and Washington State if they win their respective conference title games. It also could use a Notre Dame loss to make things easier, and it would be a massive plus if Alabama rolled through the rest of its slate with an SEC Championship.

What Will Happen: It’s going to be a firefight to get through the Cowboys and Mountaineers, but they’ll survive both games, as well as the rematch against Texas, West Virginia, or even Iowa State to get the No. 4 seed.

West Virginia (7-1)

The Path to the College Football Playoff: Not having that 12th game against NC State because of the hurricane issues really, really hurts. The 30-14 dud of a loss to Iowa State doesn’t help either. Will 11-1 get it done?

If that happens, it means the the Mountaineers will have won at Texas, at Oklahoma State, at Texas State, and will have beaten – most likely – Oklahoma twice. Even at 11-1, they would need a two-loss Big Ten champ, Notre Dame to lose, Alabama to finish unbeaten, and/or all of the above.

What Will Happen: It’s been a blast, but they’re not going to beat Oklahoma twice. However, they will get to the Big 12 Championship on the way to the conference’s slot in the Sugar Bowl.
