Utah (9-3) vs. Washington (9-3) Game Preview
Three Reasons Why You Should Watch The Pac-12 Championship
– It might not have the national impact of the other four Power Five conference championship games – or even the American Athletic and Mountain West versions – but it’s at the right slot at the right time.
The Friday night game will set the tone for the big stuff coming the next day, but in terms of being a close, good game, there’s a chance this might just be the best of the bunch.
There won’t be the firepower of Texas vs. Oklahoma, and it won’t have the intensity of Alabama vs. Georgia, the winner is going to the Rose Bowl. There’s no committee, and there’s no speculation and wondering about what there is to play for.
The winner gets to go play in Pasadena.
– It might have been a rocky road to get here, but if Chris Petersen’s team pulls this off, it’ll make it two Pac-12 titles in three years as the league’s star program. Of course, it’s a rebuilding season in the South, and Oregon and Stanford had their issues, but whatever.
This is what the fan base was hoping for when Petersen came aboard, and even if it’s not for a College Football Playoff spot, finishing it off by ruining Washington State’s season and winning the Pac-12 title would be fantastic by any Dawg fan’s standard.
– You did it, Utah. Finally, the former Mountain West program is here, as the only team in the Pac-12 South to play in a Pac-12 Championship game. There were a few down times after making the move to the big conference in 2011, but this is it. This is the huge moment for the football team and the school, even after proving itself more than Power Five-worthy since making the move.
With a gut-punch comeback to beat BYU, and now this, a win would make this a magical year, even at a place that’s had its share of great runs.
