Oregon State (2-8) vs. Washington (7-3) Game Preview
One Reason Why Oregon State Will Win
Jermar Jefferson continues to come up with a great freshman season, looking like the type of back to work the program around for the next few years.
Even though he’s the one guy everyone has to stop, the young running back continues to produce, with over 1,200 yards with 12 scores and averaging over six yards per carry. He might have problems against the Washington run defense, but he’s just good enough to give the Dawgs a few fits.
Without much of a pass rush or big plays in the backfield, Washington’s solid pass defense will be under fire. Make UW worry about Jefferson, hope QB Jake Luton can catch fire early on, and keep the offense going against a team that has a nasty habit of playing down to its competition.
One Reason Why Washington Will Win
Okay, Jake Browning. Go off.
Washington is more of a grinding team than an explosive one, and that shouldn’t be too much of an issue against a defense that can’t stop a third down. The Beavers are dead last in the nation in third down D, and UW has to take advantage by grinding out the O and owning the clock.
Don’t force anything, go on long scoring marches, and keep Luton and Jefferson off the field. Browning hasn’t thrown for over 300 yards in the last three weeks, and he hasn’t been sharp, struggling to hit 60% of his passes.
This week, he won’t be under any pressure from a non-existent pass rush – he’s enough of a veteran to be able to hit the trows that are there and dominate the time of possession battle.
Come up with a few early scores, and turn it over to the Pac-12’s best scoring defense. Oregon State should be able to put up a few yards on the UW D, but it’ll hit a wall time and again.
What’s Going To Happen
Can Washington finally come up with an easy win? It seems like every Pac-12 game so far has been a fight – because they’ve all been close.
This will finally be a breather.
The Pac-12 North title is there for the taking. Win this week, beat Washington State next week, the Dawgs are off to the conference championship for the second time in three years. They’re not going to blow it here.
