Oklahoma State (5-4) vs. Oklahoma (8-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why Oklahoma State Will Win
The Oklahoma defense still isn’t any good.
There might have been some changes, and there might have been some tweaks, but it was all a mirage – playing against the TCU and Kansas State offenses right now would make anyone’s D look okay.
Once the Sooners had to deal with Texas Tech … uh oh.
Alan Bowman fired at will in the first half before getting knocked out of the game, and it was still a fight from then on in a 51-46 Sooner win.
Oklahoma State … start throwing, get rolling, and don’t pretend that this will be anything less than a firefight.
The Cowboy defense has been okay compared to other Big 12 teams, and the run D has been good at times, but …
Again, Oklahoma State, get that O going.
The Cowboys have to bomb away, but they at least have to try to get physical on the offensive front. Justice Hill can control the game a bit if the running attack is working, and that’s how Iowa State kept it close, Army stayed alive, and Texas closed it out. But …
One Reason Why Oklahoma Will Win
At this point, if you’re not showing up with at least 50 points, you need not apply to hang around with this Oklahoma team.
It really has become ridiculous. Kyler Murray would be the runaway Heisman winner in just about any other season – he’s having just as good a year at this point as Baker Mayfield did last year.
He’s taking off and running for big things when needed, he’s answering every big moment with scoring drives, and he’s been automatic at 300 yards when he needs to get there.
But it’s not just Murray doing big things. Even without Rodney Anderson, the Sooners are still rocking and rolling on the ground with over 300 yards in each of the last three games. Murray has something to do with that, but this offense can light it up in several ways.
The problem is that the O is so prolific that it takes out everyone’s running game – you have to throw to keep up.
Oklahoma State will try to roll with Hill to control the game, but it just won’t work.
What’s Going To Happen
Oklahoma State will be terrific at keeping up the pace for long parts of the game, and there will be moments when it seems like it’ll have something special brewing, and then …
Kyler Murray and the Oklahoma offense will happen.
Have fun with this. It’ll be another amazing Bedlam shootout.
