North Carolina (1-7) vs. Duke (6-3) Game Preview
One Reason Why North Carolina Will Win
Will the team play better now that there’s little to no pressure? It’s not like the Tar Heels have been playing it close to the vest, but now there’s no chance at a bowl, a losing season is ensured, and it’s a rivalry game.
This is as close to a bowl game in terms of fun that North Carolina will get.
There’s no defense, there are way too many mistakes, and there’s absolutely nothing clutch happening. However, the passing game can bomb away from time to time, and the ground game should find some success.
Pitt destroyed the Blue Devil front seven two weeks ago for 484 yards, and Miami rolled for 300 last week in the loss. The Duke tun D has gotten worse and worse as the season has gone on, and now, UNC has to at least give it a shot.
The Tar Heels can come up with yards when they commit to the run – they can average over five yards per carry when they get things going.
One Reason Why Duke Will Win
Throw out the passing game last week in the muck and the rain of Miami in the 20-12 win – Daniel Jones has been terrific lately throwing the ball.
The Blue Devils might have lost three of the four games, but Jones threw well after coming back from missing two games hurt, throwing for over 200 yards in four straight with a 396-yard, four score day against Pitt.
Everyone has too much fun running on the North Carolina defensive front to bother with bombing away, but this is the week for Jones to go off again.
At the very least there will be enough balance to keep the chains moving however the Blue Devils want to move the ball.
What’s Going To Happen
North Carolina doesn’t know how to win. It’s been able to keep games close, and it’s been able to be right there on the doorstep, and then … nope.
It’s as if the team invents ways to lose close games.
This time, it’ll pull it off.
Finally, the Tar Heels will put together just enough offense to come through when they have to in the fourth quarter. Jones will play well for the Blue Devil attack, and the yards will be there, but the UNC ground game will take over as the team finally gets that second win.
It’ll be too late, but it’s a rivalry win.
And then Zion Williamson Mania will resume for that other Duke sports program.
