New Mexico (3-6) vs. Air Force (3-6) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
So who wants to stay alive for a bowl game?
The loser is ensured of a losing season. The winner still has a desperate shot, but whatever – neither team is going bowling. However, there’s this will be entertaining.
New Mexico has lost four straight with the offense finally stalling and the defense not doing much of anything right to pick up the slack. The three wins this year are over Incarnate Word, New Mexico State, and UNLV.
The problem is a pass defense that’s not slowing down anyone. That’s not an issue this week.
Air Force is running fine, and it’s controlling the clock, and it’s doing Air Force things. But it’s not winning the field position battle – the punting game is awful – and the defense isn’t coming up with enough key takeaways.
New Mexico’s run defense is good enough to not get gouged, but it also hasn’t faced anyone who can take over a game like the Falcons can.
Air Force will have the ball for close to 40 minutes, it’ll run for around 250 yards, and the defense will be just good enough on third downs to keep New Mexico from ever finding a rhythm.
The game will be really, really fast with these two offenses with limited possessions. Air Force will take advantage of more of them.
