What’s Going To Happen
It’s not a bowl game, and it’s not going to save the season, but beating Nevada for the Fremont Cannon matters to UNLV, especially after losing the last two years.
The Rebels have showed just enough glimpsed to think they could’ve been interesting had QB Armani Rogers stayed healthy, but the defense couldn’t come through, and they lost in a whole variety of ways in a losing season.
On the opposite end is a Nevada program that’s rising up under head coach Jay Norvell. Bowl eligible after winning four straight’s been a great run this season, and now there’s a chance to take down the rival and make the year even better.
The biggest turnaround over past seasons for the Wolf Pack has been a run defense that’s not getting destroyed. This group has the pass rush and it’s great at getting into the backfield on a consistent basis, not allowing a touchdown run over the last four games.
Rogers is back for the Rebels, but to pull this off, the offense has to be balanced and it has to somehow keep up with what should be a good pace.
The Nevada run defense will hold up, the passing game will have a nice performance against one of the nation’s leakiest secondaries, and despite the home field and the rivalry aspect, the Rebels won’t be able to pull through late. They’ll hang around, but they won’t be able to get the O going against this D in the second half.
