3. Dino Babers, Syracuse head coach
The blowout loss to Notre Dame might have soured things a wee bit, but after building Syracuse back up into a good ACC program, he’s going to be on everyone’s short list.
Here are the issues. First, his Orange team is getting it done in a miserable year for the ACC. Syracuse has been strong, and it battled with Clemson in Death Valley, but this has also been the right team at the right time.
The second concern is Colorado – is this going to be big enough for Babers?
With his skills, his talent, and his personality, cranking up Syracuse into a power and sticking around isn’t out of the realm of possibility, but there’s a chance USC might be interested. Or Oklahoma – if that becomes available.
Or North Carolina, if that’s considered to be a little bit more of a stronger gig.
Will Babers want to go into another Syracuse-like situation where he has to take a program and build it up over the next few years? Probably not – he’ll likely want something a bit more turn-key. But …
He’s worth going after.
