Marshall (8-3) vs. Virginia Tech (5-6) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
Virginia Tech really, really, really, really wants to go bowling.
It took an overtime win over Virginia to keep the season going, and while beating a hated rival was huge, that meant more since it triggered an extra game against Marshall in an attempt to get to six wins and bowl eligibility.
But there’s a funny thing about keeping the 25-year bowl streak alive – Virginia Tech actually has to beat Marshall first.
This isn’t some total roll-over team the Hokies can blow past. The Herd are 8-3 having won five of their last six games, while ruining FIU’s Conference USA title dreams along the way.
Even with the emotional victory over the Cavaliers, this is still a horribly flawed Virginia Tech team with no run defense, too many mistakes, and an inconsistent offense that doesn’t keep the chains moving.
Marshall doesn’t do anything special offensively, but its run defense is amazing and the line is terrific at getting into the backfield. The D comes up with plenty of sacks and a whole lot of pressure to force a whole lot of mistakes.
The Herd will hang around this game for all four quarters because of its defense – it’ll be an extremely frustrating day for Virginia Tech – but there will two key turnovers will change up the game late. The Hokies will screw up, too, but their mistakes will come early on.
It’ll be another tight battle for Virginia Tech, but it didn’t get this far to blow it now. I’ll pull off the win, even if the fans have to sweat it out.
