Buffalo (10-2) vs. Northern Illinois (7-5) Game Preview
Three Reasons Why You Should Watch The MAC Championship
– This might not be the MAC monster it was under Jerry Kill and Dave Doeren, but Rod Carey is putting together a nice run at NIU. After two down seasons – at least for this program – here’s the chance for his second MAC Championship in five years.
– The Buffalo rebuilding job culminates with this showcase. Just like it took PJ Fleck a few years to take Western Michigan from disastrous to unbeaten MAC champ two years ago, UB head coach Lance Leipold has built up the program from mediocrity to the a 10-2 season on the verge of a MAC title. The Wisconsin-Whitewater legend who went 109-6 with six national titles has worked magic over the last four years. Now he has to finish the drill.
– The stars are worth watching. Nine First Team All-MAC stars – and eight second-teamers – are in this game. Buffalo QB Tyree Jackson is the MAC’s Offensive Player of the Year, and Northern Illinois DE Sutton Smith was named the league’s top defensive player. The NFL scouts are more than interested in this game, too.
