Texas Tech has fired Kliff Kingsbury. Who are the five top replacement options to take over?
It could’ve and should’ve been perfect.
The favorite son of the program, the great offensive coach, the right guy for the right system.
He just couldn’t get the machine to turn over.
Three straight seven-loss seasons and five losing seasons in six campaigns proved to be too much. He just needed one more win in his final few games to get bowl eligible, but he couldn’t do it.
The quarterbacks were hurt, and he couldn’t catch a break, but basically, the program went GoodFellas when it came to being all about the record … “(bleep) you, pay me.”
So who are the five hot names out there for the job?
5. Jeff Tedford, Fresno State head coach
There haven’t been any rumors about him, and he’s not necessarily been the hot name around the discussions, but with it looking more and more like Clay Helton will stay as the USC head man, Tedford might not have too many other places to look at.
If he, in fact, does want to go somewhere else.
The 57-year-old Fresno State head coach and former quarterback is built for the program. He’s doing a wonderful job with it, he’s coaching in his second straight Mountain West championship, and he’s building up a Group of Five powerhouse.
He’s certainly not old, but if he’s looking to make a move, now would be the time.
He also proved he might be a great mix of offensive mind and defensive sensibilities. His offensive resumé is legendary, but it’s been the defensive side that’s made Fresno State fantastic.
