Kentucky (8-3) vs. Louisville (2-9) Game Preview
One Reason Why Kentucky Will Win
Bobby Petrino might be gone, but his defense has stuck around.
Kentucky isn’t bombing away or putting up big points on anyone, but it should look like the Kansas City Chiefs against a Cardinal D that isn’t even close to stopping the run.
NC State can’t and doesn’t run a lick, and it was able to pile up 164 yards and three touchdowns last week. Before that, the Cardinals were allowing 250 yards per game like they were giving away candy. Wake Forest, Clemson and Syracuse all cranked up well over 300 yards.
UK is about to keep this really, really simple. Run the ball. Run it again. Then run it some more. And then turn Josh Allen and the defensive loose on a Cardinal offensive line that can’t slow anyone down.
One Reason Why Louisville Will Win
Obviously, there’s the Last Game of the Year thing, at home, in a rivalry battle, and the team that has absolutely nothing to lose can do whatever it wants to try screwing up the Wildcats.
In this game, there’s absolutely no pressure – it’s all on the other side of the field in a game it’s supposed to win. Lose, and that’s three losses in the last four games.
As bad as the Cardinals have been, when there’s a little time to work, there’s enough of a passing game to be explosive in stretches. They can control the clock at times, and they do have the skill players who – if UK lets down – can survive with some big plays.
Score early, make the Cats push to come back, and the chances will be there to make this interesting.
What’s Going To Happen
The rivalry aspect will help a little bit to keep this from getting out of hand, but the lines just aren’t there for the Cardinals.
The UK defensive front will live in the backfield, the offense will come up with close to 300 rushing yards, and the Cats will play exactly like they want to.
