Iowa State (7-4) vs. Drake (7-4) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
Iowa State was supposed to play San Diego State, but the game was cancelled due to bad weather. It was supposed to close things out with a date against Incarnate Word, but the Cardinals ended up going to the FCS playoffs.
The to fill out the schedule, the Cyclones places a call to the school down the road. Iowa State is going bowling, and this game doesn’t make a lick of difference, but it’s a chance to give the young players a whole lot more work and use it to get a jump-start on next year – as well as bowl practice.
Drake has had a nice season, mostly because of a dangerous defense that lives in the backfield with a great pass rush and enough of a run defense to be more than just pesky.
After a massive comeback to get by Kansas State 42-38 – and ruin the Wildcats’ bowl hopes – there’s still plenty of work for Iowa State to do. The offense isn’t good enough to go off against this Bulldog D, but the defense will get the job done up front.
Drake might be solid, but it struggles to run the ball and gives up way too many plays in the backfield. This won’t be a total walkover, but the Bulldogs won’t be able to move the ball consistently well enough.
