Houston (7-1) vs. SMU (3-5) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
While the College Football Playoff committee gave all the American Athletic love to UCF in the first rankings, Houston has been every bit as strong, if not better.
And now it’s time to prove it.
The Cougars have scored 42 points or more in every game, and they’re coming off a dominant 57-36 performance against USF, with D’Eriq King coming up with a special day with 419 passing yards and five scores, and 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
And now SMU has to try figuring out how to keep up with the machine.
The Mustangs are having a devil of a time keeping the chains moving and stopping good teams on third downs, but they gave a strong Cincinnati team a hard time last week.
Can the Sonny Dykes offense finally get the passing game going? This would be the week to give it a shot. The Cougar pass defense is the worst in college football in terms of yards, but it’s only giving up one touchdown pass in each of the last five games and has six picks in the last four games.
This should be a fun shootout with the two offenses hitting home runs and putting up big passing yards, but Houston will move the chains a whole lot better than the Mustangs will. It’ll take a full four quarters for the Cougars to put this away, but they’ll get another big game out of King.
Get your popcorn ready, and Houston, get ready to finally get a little respect from the College Football Playoff committee.
