4. Buffalo Bulls (8-1)
Can the MAC make it two trips to a big game in three years?
The Bulls got blown away by Army 42-13, but in a strange way, the College Football Playoff committee is the perfect group to excuse that. There are enough people in that room to respect how quirky and tough the option is to deal with on the wrong day.
The Bulls have the talent – not joking; they might just have the most talented healthy quarterback in all of Buffalo right now in Tyree Jackson – and they’re kicking it in at the right time.
Beating Rutgers isn’t anything special, but it’s a 42-13 win on the road over a Power Five program. The win at Temple helps the resume, and even winning at Toledo matters.
It’s still going to be a fight, and it’s going to take the Mountain West and American Athletic champ to have two losses, but win out, go 12-1 with a MAC championship, and this team would be a whole lot of fun to see on a big stage.
