Why UAB Will Win The Conference USA Championship
– No, really, UAB didn’t show off anything last week. The running game didn’t get anything out of star RB Spencer Brown – he ran once for no yards – but he’s banged up. On the plus side in the clunker of a loss, the UAB run defense showed up, holding the Blue Raiders to just 133 yards, and the team actually had a 3-0 lead before everything well apart. Again, expect the real Blazers to make an appearance this week.
– The UAB defense turned up the heat a bit, but it’s even better than it was last week – sorry for the repeated theme. The group the ripped apart everyone on the schedule for 97 tackles for loss should be able to own the Middle Tennessee backfield after coming up with eight plays behind the line. The Blue Raider offensive line is fine, but it’s nothing special in pass protection. QB Brent Stockstill is about to feel a whole lot more heat.
– Again with the UAB defense, but it really was special. Granted, the Blazers weren’t playing in the Big 12, but they were able to hold five teams in six games to a touchdown or less.
Okay, okay, okay, so it might have been against Rice, UTEP, UTSA, and some of the worst offenses in college football, but all throughout the season, this group was able to own third downs and the team dominated the clock and the tempo.
