Clemson (9-0) vs. Boston College (7-2) Game Preview

One Reason Why Clemson Will Win

The team is humming at just the right time.

There’s dominant, and there’s what Clemson is doing on both sides of the ball with the offense doing whatever it wants, and the defense taking its game to a whole other level. Already good, the defense has given up just 36 points in the last four games.

The offense has scored 41 or more in each of those four.

Boston College can’t win this game unless it runs well, and no one’s been able to do that on the Tigers this year – Wake Forest had the high mark on the year with 175 yards.

The Demon Deacons lost 63-3.

Even with the great play from the BC ground attack, it doesn’t come up with enough third down conversions, and it doesn’t control the clock. Clemson is terrific on third downs on both sides of the ball, and while time of possession doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter when you have the most explosive offense in the ACC by a mile.

One Reason Why Boston College Will Win

So how was Syracuse able to almost pull it off against the Tigers? The Orange were able to throw well enough to keep things moving.

Texas A&M was able to stay in it with Kellen Mond throwing for 430 yards and keeping the pressure on the Tiger secondary.

QB Anthony Brown, this game is on you.

Star RB AJ Dillon has a bad ankle, but the Eagles are going to try grinding it out with the ground attack as much as they can, but Brown has to connect on close to 65% of his passes, and he has to ball out by keeping the passing game going to take the pressure off everyone else.

Defensively, BC is going to bring the most heat in the backfield that Clemson has faced since the Texas A&M close call.

The Eagles have the D line to bother Trevor Lawrence, they’re great at forcing turnovers, and they’re talented enough to keep the Tiger offensive machine from going off and hitting the big home runs. But …

What’s Going To Happen

This Clemson program seems to like the challenge of going on the road for a big game. This is a different team than it was early in the season when it survived the close call against A&M, and now, the defense’s manhood is going to be challenged.

The bigger problem is the Boston College resumé. It’s a great team, it’s playing as well as anyone in the ACC outside of Clemson, but the big win is over … Miami?

This isn’t the Miami team everyone thought it would be.

Virginia Tech? At this point, whatever.

The Eagles lost to NC State a few weeks ago, got ripped up by Purdue – and that was with a healthy Dillon – and there aren’t any great wins to get too excited about.

They’ll play well for a while, and then Clemson will once again show what it’s the second-best team in college football.
