BYU (4-5) vs. UMass (4-6) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
Very quietly, UMass has found something fun in its lost season with two straight wins including a 62-59 shootout win over Liberty. And bowl hopes are dead on arrival with a trip to Georgia to close things out after this, but screwing up BYU would be a big deal.
On the flip side, the Cougars are suffering a power outage at the exact wrong time, not being able to come through late in losses to Northern Illinois and Boise State. Now they have to win two of their last three games – New Mexico State is up next – just to come up with a bowl game.
On the road, the BYU defense has to rise up and it has be tough against the Minutemen passing game that will try to open it up from the start.
UMass might have big issues on the lines, and there’s no defense and little pass rush, but the passing game is a blast and the beleaguered D is great at taking the ball away.
WR Andy Isabella is coming off a nine-catch, 303-yard, three score day against Liberty, and he needs to go off against a BYU secondary that’s been good, but is about to be under siege.
The Cougars might be struggling, but the UMass defense isn’t coming up with any key stops. Finally, the BYU offense will look like it can do something right.
