What’s Going To Happen
It’s been a strange year, but BYU can finally get the sixth win needed to become bowl eligible as it potentially finishes off with a bang.
The offense hasn’t been as consistent or as good as expected – suffering a painful midseason power outage – but with this layup and the Holy War against Utah to go, and throwing in the Arizona and Wisconsin wins, this could still turn out to be an interesting season with plenty of high-marks.
But the O has to keep up with a New Mexico State team that’s fun and explosive, even if the defense is giving up points and yards just as quickly.
With this, and the rematch from an earlier season game – a 49-41 game – against Liberty, the Aggie season is done next week. But win the final two games, finish 5-7, and this wouldn’t be that awful a year considering the rough 0-4 start.
The NMSU defense can’t get off the field, the team almost never seems to have the ball, and it’s about to get hammered by BYU’s running game. There’s not much of one, but this week, it’ll look and play at times like it’s Alabama lite.
Freshman QB Zach Wilson has been accurate since taking over for Tanner Mangum, and he can run a little, too. All he has to do is hit his third down passes. NMSU can get into the backfield, but it can’t make enough plays or key stops to pull this off.
BYU’s offense cranked it up against Hawaii a few weeks ago, and UMass last week. Against the Aggies, it’ll be balanced and effective throughout in an easy win.
