What’s Going To Happen
On a five-game winning streak, Boise State has to stay alive in the Mountain race with a win.
Get this done, and then next week’s showdown against Utah State is for the division championship with a shot at playing – likely – Fresno State for the Mountain West title.
New Mexico is looking for something positive as it’s struggling through a five-game losing streak. The offense is having problems, but the defense has been the big problem, with a secondary that’s not stopping anyone and a struggling run D.
Boise State will rip up the Lobo defense on third downs, controlling the game and the clock. The Broncos are second in the nation in third down conversions – converting 56% of their tries – and New Mexico can’t get off the field lately, allowing teams to convert 50% or more of their chances in three of the last four games.
New Mexico hasn’t played a slew of high-powered passing teams lately, but Utah State was able to fire away for 516 yards in a 61-19 win a few weeks ago, and now it’ll be Brett Rypien’s turn.
Brilliant against Fresno State, he connected on 83% of his passes, and now he’ll connect to his heart’s content in an easy blowout win, setting up next week’s massive game with the Aggies.
