Big Ten Game Recaps, Thoughts, What It All Means: Week 10

Ohio State 36, Nebraska 31

What Happened: Ohio State was sluggish and sloppy, but it got out alive with three JK Robbins touchdown runs and two Dwayne Haskins scoring passes to survive.

Nebraska kept pressing, with Adrian Martinez running for two scores, and hitting JD Spielman on a 17-yard touchdown pass to pull within five with just under three minutes to play, but the Buckeyes were able to run out the clock.

What Mattered: Dwayne Haskins completed 18-of-32 passes for 252 yards and two scores with a pick, but the running game made up for the inconsistencies. Dobbins ran 23 times for 163 yards and three scores, and Mike Weber ran nine times for 91 yards. The team outgained Nebraska 229 yards to 184.

– Adrian Martinez kept on pressing, completing 22-of-23 passes for 266 yards and a score, and running for 72 yards and a touchdown. The Huskers were able to limit the penalties – with just five – and they were +2 in the turnover battle. They played well, but the game will be forever remembered for …

What It All Means: Nebraska is no longer eligible for a bowl game at 2-7, but the team got better and better over the last few weeks. It was right in the game until the end, and now it’s time to boost up the resume and play spoiler with Illinois, Michigan State and at Iowa to close.

– The Buckeyes were ugly, didn’t play with a sense of urgency, and the line play was mediocre, but they won. As bad as they looked, they’re still 8-1 with at Michigan State, at Maryland and Michigan to close. Win out, win the Big Ten title, and they’re still almost certainly – with a little bit of help – in the College Football Playoff.
