Three Reasons Why You Should Watch The Big Ten Championship

– A whole lot of the tone and tenor for this game will depend on what happens in the earlier games. If Texas beats Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship and Alabama takes out Georgia in the SEC title game, then it’s all on Ohio State to just win. It won’t be about margin of victory, and it won’t be about the optics – to a point.

But if Georgia wins, that could be it. Alabama, Notre Dame and Georgia will be in, and Clemson will be hitting the – likely – layup against Pitt at the same time, meaning Ohio State might not have its mojo.

In any event, if the Buckeyes are incentivized in any way, it’ll be about trying to put on a show – and Northwestern keeping this from happening.

Northwestern is now one of the cool kids. It’s in the Big Ten Championship game, and this appearance means half of the conference teams have had a spin at the title.

Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota and Rutgers – those are the ones sitting over at the table over in the corner, while the Wildcats are invited to the one with lunches packed with Twinkies and brand name juice boxes.

Head coach Pat Fitzgerald has never let the program think about anything less than being Big Ten Championship-worthy and in the mix for the Rose Bowl every year, and now it has its shot. Win this and go to Pasadena.

Tua Tagovailoa vs. Jake Fromm in the SEC Championship will be NFL vs. NFL, and Kyler Murray vs. Sam Ehlinger in the Big 12 title game will be an interesting matchup, but Dwayne Haskins vs. Clayton Thorson will have the NFL scouts buzzing.

Haskins needs more time logged in, but he’s on track to be a top ten overall pick whenever he comes out, and Thorson is going to be in the top 50 in next year’s draft. We all know how this works – if someone comes up with a massive performance, the stock will crank up that much more.
