Big 12 Game Recaps, Thoughts, What It All Means: Week 10

Baylor 35, Oklahoma State 31

What Happened: Baylor completed the late comeback with a six-yard touchdown catch from Denzel Mims with just seven seconds to play to shock Oklahoma State. Down 31-21 with nine minutes to go, Baylor got two touchdown passes from Charlie Brewer – who stepped in after sitting out most of the game getting over a concussion – including a 36-yarder to Jalen Hurd before the final game-winning drive.

John Lovett ran for a 75-yard score for the Bears, and the special teams came through with a blocked punt for a touchdown, but it seemed like Oklahoma State was in control with a Justice Hill touchdown run for the ten-point lead late.

What Mattered: Jalen McClendon completed 10-of-17 passes for 102 yards with a. pick, and ran for 28 yards and a touchdown for the Bears before Brewer stepped in to save the day. Brewer only threw for 56 yards, but he came up with the two late scores. LB Clay Johnston came up with a game-high 17 tackles.

– Taylor Cornelius completed 24-of-41 passes for 287 yards and a score, and he ran for 19 yards and a touchdown. But Hill led the way for the Cowboys with 119 rushing yards and a score.

What It All Means: With this, Baylor still has bowl hopes. At 5-4 with at Iowa State, TCU and Texas Tech to go, it’s past the two-game losing streak and needs to pull out what might have to be another shootout win to go from miserable to bowl in Matt Rhule’s second season.

– The Cowboys still have to fight to go bowling. At 5-4, it had bowl eligibility right there, but now they need one more win with road games at Oklahoma and TCU still to go, along with a home game against West Virginia.
