Why Oklahoma Will Win The Big 12 Championship
– No one’s stopping this offense. Defense, schmefense. The Sooners lead the nation averaging more than 50 points and close to 584 yards per game. It doesn’t matter who’s running the ball, the ground attack works.
It doesn’t matter who’s getting the ball on the move – actually, it sort of does if it’s Hollywood Brown – the big plays are there. The offensive line might have been outplayed but the Texas front five the first time around, but this group has been a killer.
Yeah, the Texas defense has looked great by comparison over the last few weeks, but that’s because it faced Iowa State and Kansas. Against Oklahoma State, West Virginia, and Texas Tech when it had a quarterback, it was a run-and-gun fun time. And, when it comes to the Sooner offense …
Yeah, this guy is pretty good …
– Kyler Murray continues to have one of the greatest seasons of any quarterback in the history of college football. Oklahoma might be gunning for a Big 12 Championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff, but Murray is pushing for a Heisman.
He’s hitting 71% of his passes for 3,674 yards and 37 touchdowns with seven picks. Throw in the 853 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, and he’s doing even more for the team than Baker Mayfield did last season – he’s carrying a team with no defense to the cusp of the CFP.
– Texas is going to have to pick its poison, because the Oklahoma ground game is destroying everyone. It’s partly because Murray is turning it loose, but it’s also because the line has been phenomenal. The Sooners ran for a terrific 222 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to the Longhorns. Since then, they’ve rushed for 300 yards or more in five of the last six games with 23 touchdowns over the span.
