Mississippi State 45, Louisiana Tech 3
What Happened: Mississippi State got out to a 14-0 lead on two of Nick Fitzgerald’s three first quarter touchdown passes, but Louisiana Tech got on the board with a 46-yard Bailey Hale field goal. The Bulldogs rolled for 31 unanswered points from there.
Fitzgerald finished with four scoring passes in all to four different receivers, and Aeris Williams and Keytaon Thompson each tore off big second half touchdown runs.
What Mattered: Fitzgerald took target practice. He completed 17-of-28 passes for 243 yards and four scores, and led the team with 107 yards on 18 carries. It would’ve been nice if he didn’t run so much considering the game was over fast, but that’s what the team does, and he was in a groove.
– The defense owned the other Bulldogs throughout. The Louisiana Tech passing game didn’t go anywhere – completing 14-of-31 passes for 98 yards – with the D stiffening whenever there was any sort of a decent drive. Mississippi State was sharp.
What It All Means: The Bulldogs are bowl eligible – don’t blow this off. In Joe Moorhead’s first season, he got the program to six wins and a swag bag game, and now the pressure is off a bit. They can roll into Alabama and turn it loose. With Arkansas and Ole Miss to close out, there’s still some fun to be had.
