Arkansas State (7-4) vs. Texas State (3-8) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
Arkansas State has to avoid scoreboard watching.
The Red Wolves need to beat Texas State and hope ULM beats Louisiana to make it to the Sun Belt title game. But first, they have to deal with a Texas State team that’s looking for something interesting before starting a new era.
Head coach Everett Withers is gone and defensive coordinator Chris Woods is taking over a team that managed to win two of its last four, but is 3-8 in yet another lost season.
The offense fell flat against the league’s two best teams – scoring just seven points against both Appalachian State and Troy – but the defense is just good enough to hold up against mediocre offenses, come up with takeaways, and do a decent job against the pass.
But Arkansas State doesn’t have a mediocre offense.
The Red Wolves lead the Sun Belt in total offense thanks to a strong line that gives QB Justice Hansen time to work. The defense can get hit by good passing games, but lately, it’s been terrific – allowing 17 points or fewer over the last three weeks.
With a shot at taking the West still on the table, ASU isn’t going to blow it. The offense will crank up early, and then the pass rush will turn it loose against the TXST attack that will stall way too often.
