Why UCF Will Win The American Athletic Championship
– The rest of this UCF thing is pretty good, too. Of course McKenzie Milton is special. Of course the team isn’t as good without him. but it took more than the star quarterback to get this machine rolling over the last two seasons.
Lost in the fun of the offense is a defense that’s amazing at getting into the backfield and doesn’t allow too many big plays down the field. It can be run on – and the Temple game overall was an issue – but good luck taking the top off this secondary.
Considering just about everyone has to throw to to keep up the pace – Memphis QB Brady White only threw for 209 yards – it’s amazing that the Knights have only allowed 11 touchdown passes to go along with 12 picks.
– Okay, Greg McCrae, do that again. The 175-pound speedster has hit the 100-yard mark in three of last four games, including a 181-yard, three touchdown day against USF last week. Few teams have tried running on Memphis consistently, but those who did had success. That has to be UCF this week.
– The home field advantage should really, really matter. The loss of Milton will add even more inspiration to what will be an already charged-up setting. If you think trying to quantify emotion and fire is silly when it comes to games, watch out when UCF hits the field. The atmosphere – considering all that’s at stake and with so many thinking this is the moment when the streak ends – will be amazing.
