Memphis (8-4) vs. UCF (11-0) Game Preview
Three Reasons Why You Should Watch The American Athletic Championship
– Of course there’s the backdrop of the College Football Playoff dream for UCF. It’s not going to happen, but instead of getting into all the scenarios and fist-shaking at the system, UCF is going for a second straight New Year’s Six appearance. It might not be what it wants or feels it deserves, but that’s still a massive accomplishment. And if Clemson, Ohio State and Oklahoma all happen to lose …
– Memphis and UCF put on a whale of a show earlier in the season. It’s asking for way too much for another classic like last year’s 62-55 thriller of a conference championship win for UCF – there are too many key missing parts – but that doesn’t mean this can’t be fun. Memphis has been so, so, so painfully close to toppling the league’s big dog. And now it has another shot at it.
– Just like last year, this matchup features two of the hottest coaches going on the carousel. Memphis head man Mike Norvell is destined for a next-step-up gig somewhere very soon, and while it’s only been one year, UCF’s Josh Heupel has shown enough to potentially get a Power Five look, too. Or, these two might just stick around and make this another great chapter in the burgeoning rivalry.
