Player of the Week
QB Kenny Pickett, Pitt
Pickett completed 23-of-30 passes for 316 yards and three scores – all the touchdowns in the second half – to get by Wake Forest 34-13 to get Pitt to the ACC Championship.
Ranking the games from worst to best …
8. Notre Dame 36, Syracuse 3
Syracuse QB Eric Dungey got knocked out early, and the rest for he game turned into a big, dull dud. The Irish were up 36-0 before the Orange finally got on the board.
7. NC State 52, Louisville 10
The Wolfpack got down 3-0 before reeling off 45 straight points helped by four Ryan Finley touchdown passes. Bobby Petrino was fired soon after.
6. North Carolina 49, Western Carolina 26
It was too much of a fight for a half, but three Javonte Williams touchdown runs and two Nathan Elliott touchdown passes put it away.
5. Clemson 35, Duke 6
Clemson went through the motions for a half, but Trevor Lawrence threw two touchdown passes, Travis Etienne ran for two scores, and the D did the rest after getting down 6-0 in the first.
4. Miami 38, Virginia Tech 14
It took a half, and then Miami looked like it was supposed to with two N’Kosi Perry touchdown passes and a one-yard scoring run. Down 14-10, the Canes reeled off 28 unanswered points.
3. Pitt 34, Wake Forest 13
Pitt took the Coastal title as Kenny Pickett threw three second half touchdown passes including a 63-yarder to Taysir Mack to get ahead for good.
2. Georgia Tech 30, Virginia 27 OT
Georgia Tech hit its field goal, and Virginia missed its try after the two teams traded kicks to force overtime. Tech’s Wesley Wells appeared to hit the game-winner with just over a minute to play, but the Cavaliers rallied back with a 32-yard field goal in the final second to force the extra frame.
1. Florida State 22, Boston College 21
Down 22-13 late, the Noles pulled off the win with a field field goal with just over 12 minutes left, and on a 74-yard Tamorrion Terry touchdown catch with under two minutes to play.
