4. Good For You, CFP, On LSU
It’s easy to rip on the College Football Playoff committee for a whole slew of things here and there, but no punishing LSU too much was about as well as could be expected.
On the one hand, LSU did beat Georgia by 20 just a few weeks ago, and it was ranked two spots lower. However, the Tigers did lose to Florida, and Georgia ripped apart the Gators.
So putting it seventh is about right – there’s no shame and there shouldn’t be any sort of a punishment for losing to Alabama.
With that said, the committee did punish LSU for losing to Alabama.
LSU is still the highest-ranked team with two losses by a relative mile, being put four spots ahead of Kentucky, who also didn’t get punished too much.
The committee underranked the Wildcats last week at nine – it had, and still has, a better resumé, than Washington State – and this week it did the right thing by keeping them ahead of UCF, Syracuse, and a slew of other teams knocking on the door to be just outside of the top ten.
This matters for UK because it its easy finishing kick, and now, there’s a real shot to get a New Year’s Six bowl by getting to 10-2.
