What Would The College Football Playoff, New Year's Six Be After The First Rankings?

By

16 TEAM FORMAT

If the format was based on all Power Five conference champions, a top Group of Five champ, and ten wild-cards based on the ranking.

No. 17 Texas would have a serious beef, but everyone else ranked lower wouldn’t have a complaint.

No. 16 Iowa vs. No. 1 Alabama

The Big Ten would get a fourth team in vs. the star of the SEC.

No. 15 Utah vs. No. 2 Clemson

Utah is amazing in bowl games under Kyle Whittingham – it would be amazing to see it against Clemson.

No. 14 Penn State vs. No. 3 LSU

Lots of defense, with Penn State needing to get the offense going vs. the Tiger brick wall.

No. 13 West Virginia vs. No. 4 Notre Dame

It’s a dangerous 13 vs. 4 matchup that might be the big first round upset.

No. 12 UCF vs. No. 5 Michigan

UCF with a chip on its shoulder vs. Harbaugh once again needing a big win.

No. 11 Florida vs. No. 6 Georgia

There would be a problem with this rematch – but that’s how the rankings would’ve fallen.

No. 10 Ohio State vs. No. 7 Oklahoma

Probably the best first round matchup, this could end up being an actual College Football Playoff game this year.

No. 9 Kentucky vs. No. 8 Washington State

The two shocker upstarts of this year, all defense vs. all offense.
