Wake Forest (3-3) vs. Florida State (3-3) Game Preview
One Reason Why Wake Forest Will Win
It’s not like the Florida State offense is working.
Oh sure, the team has been a whole lot better over the last three games – including almost stunning Miami – but there’s still no ground game and the chains just aren’t moving.
Even with a ton of talent in the backfield, the Noles are still averaging just 2.7 yards per carry, running for over 100 yards just twice in four games.
The Wake Forest defense could use a bit of a break, and after dealing with Clemson, it got two weeks off. It should be better against this mediocre FSU offensive front.
On the other side, the offense might have stalled against Clemson and Notre Dame, but that’s Clemson and Notre Dame. The FSU defense might be excellent, but it gives up a boatload of passing yards and should get bombed on a bit.
It’s not going to get a whole lot of help from the offensive side. But …
One Reason Why Florida State Will Win
Okay, Florida State. Enough of your hoo-ha.
You have a 1-2 rushing punch of Cam Akers and Jacques Patrick. There’s absolutely no excuse to be six games into the season and run for 557 yards and just four touchdowns.
Yes, the O line might be that excuse, but now you’re going against the Wake Forest defensive front.
Run, run, and run some more.
It might be a rested Demon Deacon group, but so far this season, it’s not getting into the backfield on a regular basis, it’s not generating enough of a pass rush, and it’s getting rolled lately by everyone who’s trying to run.
Wake Forest has allowed 220 yards or more in each of the last four games. Notre Dame and Clemson each ran for six scores, and … okay, FSU doesn’t have that type of a running game. But this is the time to give it a try.
What’s Going To Happen
Oh yeah, the FSU defense.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the secondary has been a bit leaky, but the defensive front is great at getting into the backfield, and the ACC-best run defense is going to be a rock. The D will win this game at home, because …
Oh yeah, the FSU offense. It’s still going to struggle.
The Noles aren’t going to roll, but they’ll come up with a solid win to quietly get to 4-3 going into the fun against Clemson.
