What’s Going To Happen
No, there’s no way this game can be close to being as good as the epic 2017 American Athletic Conference championship, but it should be okay.
Memphis hasn’t been the team it was last year – it struggled in a road loss at Tulane and hasn’t beaten anyone of note – while UCF is still looking for a strong victory. Blowing away Pitt was fine, but by the optics, an impressive win over Memphis would show that it’s business as usual from last season’s great run.
UCF hasn’t shown any sort of a blip yet under Josh Heupel, with an offense that keeps moving the chains at will, isn’t turning the ball over, and is turning up the O for 574 yards per game and making it look easy.
It starts with the offensive line that’s been outstanding in pass protection and paving the way for over six yards per carry.
However, the Knight defense has been too leaky against the run, and now it has to deal with Darrell Henderson, the nation’s leading rusher with 934 yards and averaging close to 12 yards per carry.
Henderson and the running game will hit the 200-yard mark, but so will the UCF ground attack.
And McKenzie Milton will outplay Brady White.
It won’t be a walk in the park, but the Knights will get up for this game every bit as much as Memphis will. Expect a shootout with a whole lot of big plays from both sides – and yet another UCF win.
