Troy (5-1) vs. Liberty (2-3) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
It’s going to be a sneaky-good game with a plucky Liberty team looking to make a statement at home.
The Flames are coming off a stunning shootout loss to a bad New Mexico State team on the road, but even after losing three of the last four games, there’s a lot there offensively to think this might be a fun.
However, playing Troy isn’t New Mexico, New Mexico State, or Old Dominion – the three teams the Flames ripped apart.
The Trojans have the pass rush to potentially take over and dominate. They’re living in backfield, doing enough to hold down a few decent offenses. However, the D isn’t a brick wall, and the O isn’t coming up with enough deep shots.
Flame QB Stephen Calvert will be good for 300 yards, but the defensive front won’t hold up against a Trojan running game that will take over in the second half.
With starting QB Kaleb Barker out, Sawyer Smith will be fine, and the Trojan ground game will take over. Coming off two straight 100-yard games, BJ Smith will roll for well over six yards per carry on the way to a bit of a shootout win.
