ATS PICK: North Carolina

Virginia is playing amazingly well.

Head coach Bronco Mendenhall isn’t slowing things down to a crawl like the basketball team does, but he and his team have a style that’s been good enough to roll past Duke, beat Miami, and get into a position to potentially win the Coastal.

However, it’s not putting up a whole slew of points.

This is more about that big nine on the board on UNC’s side. Yes, the Tar Heels are overdue to finally win one of these close ACC games – melting down late after dominating Virginia Tech, and losing in overtime last week to Syracuse – but against a team that doesn’t score in bunches, you’re simply asking for a relatively competitive game.

Start with this. Virginia – with its style – could dominate, and still only win 21-14.

North Carolina is just 1-5, but three of those losses were by less than a touchdown – the last two by three points each – one other loss was that weird aberration against East Carolina, and the other was when Miami played well at home.

The Tar Heel offense has started to hum over the last two weeks, and Virginia is relatively punchless offensively. Take the team with the better attack … at least to keep it close.
